I must say, I appreciate someone simply calling Raven “boy.” Not only does it help new readers get by the confusion of his effeminate looks and less-than-masculine name, it’s also pretty funny to hear someone call a pirate captain something so… disrespectful.
As gorgeous as your little barn owl is, and as much as I’d love to financially support one of my favorite artists on the internet, I unfortunately have exactly zero spare dollars to spend on such lovelies. Not having a job does that sometimes.
In other news, I found a shiny Slowpoke! I almost killed it by mistake because the colors are so similar to its normal palette and I was only half paying attention, but I decided to catch the bugger and now I have a lovely blue Slowbro! (if only because I didn’t have a spare King’s Rock for a Slowking.)
Don’t feel bad! I know most of my readers are younger adults and therefore almost always financially bereft, but I keep holding out hope that I might be able to sell something one of these days, haha. 😛
Raven is an androgynous name; but much like my own, it seems to be associated more with one gender than the other.
I like your sculture of the barn owl Lee. Have you ever read The Guardians of Ga’hoole? It’s a really interesting series of fantasy novels that I recommend reading.
Yes, I started reading Guardians of Ga’Hoole after seeing the film and loving it (it and How to Train Your Dragon are my current favourite films ^^). I’ve finished Ga’Hoole and am on the second-to-last book of Wolves of the Beyond, which I think is the better of the two series so far. Lasky’s writing feels much more smooth and coherent in Wolves than it did in Ga’Hoole, though the owls are still an excellent read. I like that Lasky doesn’t shy away from deep or dark themes even though she is writing for children. The younger you make kids think, the more they’ll continue to do so throughout their lives, in my opinion. 😀
